While learning mostly about plumbing, students will also learn electrical theory, algebra, and shop arithmetic. This results in a far more well-rounded plumber. The community college has close links with plumbing businesses in the area to help provide ‘on the job training’.
Washtenaw Community College
Washtenaw Community College offers several different plumbing-focused courses. While they do not offer a plumbing certificate in the same way that Macomb Community College does, their admission officers will be more than happy to help you build up a plumbing course suitable for your needs.
Plumbers 98

Plumbers 98 is an apprenticeship course offered in Detroit Michigan. Here, you will rarely be attending class. Instead, you will be learning out there in the field with real plumbers. This helps to speed up the process of learning, often in a fraction of the time that a college course would take. In order to apply for Plumbers 98, you must be at least 18-years-old. Apprentices are paid for their work, which means that places on Plumbers 98 courses can be incredibly competitive. Therefore, it is recommended that you apply early.
Detroit Training Institute of Technology

Detroit Training Institute of Technology focuses on mainly practical courses. This includes ‘modern plumbing’. In their modern plumbing training course, you will be taught everything needed to get started in the plumbing business. The school will even provide you with a basic set of hand tools that will allow you to truly function properly as a plumber. At the end of your course, the Detroit Training Institute of Technology will use their links to help you find a job in the competitive plumbing business. This course should take around 4-months to see through to completion. This is a course that you will be attending once per weekday throughout the duration of the course.
Mott Community College

Mid Michigan College

Mid Michigan College does not offer their plumbing courses separately. Instead, their plumbing education is intertwined in a complete facilities maintenance course. This course, with a pass rate of over 97%, is one of the most intense courses in Michigan. Their courses can take as little as 30-weeks or as long as 2-years, depending on the courses that you are studying. The vast majority of the modules offered by Mid Michigan College will offer apprenticeship training. This is something that they are able to offer due to the close links they have with plumbers in the local area.
UA Local 357
Located in Kalamazoo, this trade union can help to provide students with ‘on the job’ training in the world of plumbing and pipefitting. They also offer evening classes for those that are looking to brush up on their skills. Their courses do fill up incredibly quickly due to the popularity of this company, plus it is rare to receive apprenticeships in Kalamazoo right away. You will need to be at least 18-years-old to apply to any of their courses.
