Lincoln Tech in Mahwah NJ
Lincoln’s HVAC program introduces students to Green Technology – green alternatives to comfort heating and cooling systems, as well as Solar Thermal and Geothermal Green Technologies. As the first school in the country that incorporates Energy Auditing courses from the Green Mechanical Council, you’ll be learning advancements in technology that enhance your Heating and Air Conditioning training, skills and marketability to employers.

United Association of New Jersey
The HVAC/R Division of the United Association in New Jersey is comprised of four Plumber and Pipefitting Locals. We are the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Service Division within those Locals. We currently have 1,300 members in which 210 are Apprentices. We work for 181 Union Contractors throughout the entire state. The type of work we do is the installation, service and maintenance of commercial and industrial Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment.
The Apprenticeship program is five years of related instruction attending one day every other week at the Training Center which is located in Hazlet. The remainder of your time is spent working for a union contractor.

ELECTRICAL ASSISTANT & HVAC (640 CONTACT HOURS)
Program Description:
The Electrical Assistant and HVAC program combines electrical and HVAC skills. Students will be prepared and trained to acquire electrical and HVAC skills needed to be more competitive in the field. It will introduce students to industrial, commercial, and residential wiring, motor control and theory consistent with the National Electric Code. HVAC component will have student’s competency and basic work skills pertaining to the heating, modern refrigeration, and air conditioning industry. Upon completion of the program, students will take the Environmental Protection Agency Universal Certification Examination.
HVAC I AND II (400 HOURS)
Program Description:
This program will train students in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning. This 72-Hour course is for HVAC Apprentices who have completed less than 288 hours of the required 576 hours of HVAC related technical instruction. It covers the fundamentals of refrigeration including definitions and descriptions of terms, methods of heat transfer and refrigerants. Also covered are temperature and pressure relationship, gauge techniques, descriptions and function of the component parts of a system, motor and controls, system construction, piping techniques, charging, evacuation and leak testing system.
HVACIII & IV) Apprenticeship HVAC III & IV
Prerequisite: 288 Hours of Previous HVAC Related Technical Instruction
This course is for HVAC Apprentices who have completed more than 288 hours of the required 576 hours of related technical instruction. It will cover the theory of all types of systems in commercial and industrial use.
· Low Voltage control systems, residential heating and cooling system, and commercial HVAC systems.
· Ice machines, recovery, reclaim, recycling, troubleshooting, control systems for commercial refrigeration systems and maintenance, basic heating controls for forced warm air systems.
Including setting up and piping components, electrical components and their installation, testing, and troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

In the HVAC/R Career Program, the curriculum is revised annually to meet the industry standards provided by the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI) in Arlington, Virginia. In the first two years, students will be trained in the fundamentals of air conditioning & refrigeration including the refrigeration system, piping operations, torch operations, sheet metal fabrication, and EPA/CFC certification.
Also in the first two years, electrical systems and components are presented as a priority for future service of HVAC/R equipment. Included in the electrical training are meter use, schematic drawing and interpreting, component identification and testing, electric motors, and an introduction to electrical theory. Students become familiar with The National Electrical Code which is the standard set by the United States for the safe installation of electrical wiring and is followed when installing photovoltaic (solar) equipment.

Sussex County Technical School
Students enrolled in the HVAC program learn to service and troubleshoot heating equipment (both gas and oil) and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. HVAC technicians ensure that a building’s energy systems are working efficiently, and detect and repair problems within those systems. Technicians in the industry will participate in related “green” and energy efficient systems. Because of the technical nature of the job, education in the field is mandatory.
Incoming freshmen students interested in this program will participate in the Exploratory Construction Cluster. Students will have the benefit of experiencing each of the following programs for one marking period to determine their primary program of study: Carpentry, Building Trades, Electricity and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
What You Will Learn
Instruction includes installation and/or repair of furnaces, boilers, refrigeration systems, hydronics and zone controls. Students will also receive instruction in motors and controls, soldering, brazing, steel pipe cutting and threading, sheet metal basics, and electrical wiring of relays.
