How to get a plumber’s license in Oklahoma

There are three ways to get your plumber’s license in the state of Oklahoma.

The first step in the process, if you have no plumbing experience, is to become an apprentice to either a journeyman plumber or a plumbing contractor.  You must file an application with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board in order to start the process.  Here is a link to the application which you can download and fill out.

The second way to get your plumber’s license is to become a journeyman plumber.  There is a journeyman plumber exam that you need to take and pass.  You can find a link to the application for the exam here.  There is a $75 fee that needs to submitted with the application.  You must have at least three years experience working for licensed plumbing contractor, or a valid out of state plumbing contractor license, or three years experience in the plumbing trade in the US Military.

A journeyman’s work must be performed under the valid license of a plumbing contractor.

The third way to get your plumber’s license is to apply for, and take the exam to obtain a plumbing contractors license.  There is a $330 fee to apply and take the exam.  Here is a link to the application.

Applicants interested in taking the contractor’s license exam must meet the journeyman requirements plus have one more additional year of plumbing work experience.

For a contractor to maintain his license in a valid state, he must obtain insurance and a bond.  The bond must be in the amount of $5,000.00.  The insurance certificate required is in the amount of $50,000.00 of general liability coverage.

The contractor must also display the contractor name and license number on any business vehicles.  Furthermore, the license number must be displayed on all advertising, bids, and contracts.
